fit4sec is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the measure “Deutsche Antragsteller fit für Europa” (German Applicants fit for Europe). The project "Schwerpunktzentrum für Sicherheit und Technologie“ (Priority Centre for Security and Technology) funded under the first measure (2013-2016) initially pursued the goal of pooling competences in the German security industry and to facilitate the participation of German companies in European security research projects. With the project "Aufbau Europäischer Konsortien für die Sicherheitsforschung“ (Building European Consortia for Security Research) (BERKoS) funded under the second measure (from 2017), a knowledge community platform is being realised in Germany that specifically supports German actors in meeting the challenges of increased end-user orientation in European security research (Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe).
The project was originally scheduled to end in February 2021, however four of the partners (IABG, BIGS, BDEW and THW) have decided to continue the support activities until July 2021 to facilitate the entry of interested partners into the Horizon Europe programme and the formation of consortia for the first calls.
